Around the farm.

We have so many new things to see on the farm. Now that [R]‘s parents have moved there, there is significant visible progress each time I visit. Of course [R] comes down to the farm much more often than I. He’s contributed significantly to the progress as well, and does all of the really heavy work as well as driving the larger Mahindra tractor. The Kioti, the smaller orange tractor, can be driven by anyone, but Big Red is rather intimidating.

We took the Razr (side by side quad) up the trails to the highest point on the property. Our plan is to raise a wind turbine here to generate electricity. The pic above is near where we plan to do this. It’s a strip of land that runs at a diagonal across the property. There are power lines already here so the land is mostly cleared, it just takes some mowing to keep it cleaned up.

A lot of work has been done to stockpile food stores as well. Lots of strategic shopping and canning of seasonal vegetables from the garden and from the produce co-op that I run. One thing that is gone through faster than we anticipated is coffee. So we’ll have to buy more of that for storage. Here’s a glimpse:

And here is “Midnight” the barn cat. He/she is tiny! Meows all the time when you are near. Midnight comes and goes but not too far.

And just to close, I thought I’d give a shout out to who made this blog entry possible. I have a love/hate relationship with HughesNet. When it works, I love it. But it’s sporadic, so when it’s down, I’m grumpy.

  1. Hi Teri! Thanks for inviting me to visit your blog! It will be so fun to keep up with you all and look at your beautiful pictures! :)

  2. Thanks for the comment, Kipp! Glad you stopped by.

  3. It’ll be cool to see watch the progress of the wind generator. Michael is fascinated with them, and would love to put a mini one on our roof-and stop giving our $ away to other companies.
We are envious of your stockpile. lol

  4. Laura, tell Michael he can help me put it up if he wants. I’m figuring this stuff out as I go, but it’s been fun and interesting.
